Acrylic, for clean edges and light.
Acrylic laser-cuts and engraves with a glass-like, polished edge, making it a common choice for anything meant to be seen — display stands, signage, and light-diffusing panels. Cast acrylic engraves and machines slightly differently to extruded, and colour is available well beyond clear.
A crisp, flame-polished cut edge straight off the laser, easy to bond and finish — but brittle relative to polycarbonate, so not the choice for parts that need to flex or absorb impact.

Properties
What acrylic is — and isn't — good for.
Cast acrylic gives the best clarity and engraving contrast and is the usual choice for signage and display work, while extruded acrylic is more consistent in thickness and better suited to larger flat panels. Clear, frosted, coloured, mirrored, and fluorescent variants cover most display and signage needs without additional finishing. The trade-off is brittleness — acrylic cracks under sudden impact or flex rather than deforming, so it's not the right choice for parts that need to bend, absorb shock, or survive being dropped.
