Aluminium offers a strong strength-to-weight ratio and natural corrosion resistance, mild steel is the economical choice for general structural parts, stainless steel adds corrosion and heat resistance for demanding environments, and brass and copper serve decorative, conductive, or specific mechanical needs. Metal holds tighter tolerances and outperforms any polymer under heat or sustained load, but turnaround and cost depend on thickness, alloy, and finishing (deburring, bending, plating) required — it's not the fastest or cheapest option for a quick prototype iteration.
